I think romance readers may be some of the most hope-filled people around. We follow a fictional relationship through its obstacles and trials, and cheer on the characters, no matter what they face. We believe in the rightness of a happy ending.
I’ve been posting on social media about Hope. It is such a good thing. Life-sustaining hope doesn’t come from denial and doesn’t work from a head-in-the-clouds perspective. It comes from knowing things are rough and soldiering on from a place of awareness that we make our own experiences.
That is a message illustrated in my romance novels. The way through to true love is worth the work to get there. You can read about Hope in an upcoming release, At Midnight, an anthology of three stories about approaching deadlines by Lainee Cole, Rena Koontz, and me. Here’s a short excerpt from my story, Two Days Until Midnight.
He stepped close to Lark, so close he felt her breath on his face. She didn’t move away, and he looped a lock of her hair behind her ear, sinking into the soft feel of it. Oh, how he wanted to kiss her lips, but he stood suspended in doubt nanomillimeters away.
“Tamier.” She stared at his mouth. “You don’t know everything about me.”
He pulled his eyes from her lips and looked into her eyes. “I don’t expect I do.”
“There are things I want to tell you, but I’m afraid.”
“Don’t be. If there are things I need to know, you’ll tell me or they will come up.” He nuzzled the soft spot under her ear and into her neck, all of his senses exploding with sensations.
“Tamier,” she whispered.
“Remember later that I warned you.”
